Low riders, high riders, heat, and asphalt. The Kansas City car show, car cruise, and car racing calendar for July 22, 23, 24

The temperature is 100-degrees. The heat-index is 115. And there are people all over town spending all day sitting in and walking around asphalt parking lots. Welcome to car show season in Kansas City.

Don’t let the high mercury levels scare you. There are lots of great events all over town, and as long as you throw on some sunscreen and drink a bunch of water, you should have a great time. The Show and Shine at the Agricultural Hall of Fame is always a very popular event. The turnout at Belton’s Saturday night cruise is typically very strong. And there is what appears to be a low-rider show at the Scottish Rite Temple that seems pretty intriguing.

Plus, there are all kinds of races you can go to. Hit the drag races at KCIR or Heartland Park, any of a number of dirt tracks around the area, or head south to Lebanon, Mo., for a little asphalt Late Model action.

Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong at a car show, car cruise, or car race in the Kansas City area this weekend. Just make sure you call ahead if weather or other factors may be an issue before you leave your air-conditioning.

NASCAR on Television

Did you know that Jeff Gordon went to the Congo this week? He could fit that into his schedule, because the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is off this weekend while they gear-up for the Brickyard at the end of the month. In the meantime, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the Camping World Trucks will have to furnish your professional stock car racing entertainment, which isn’t all bad. Heck, they often put on better races anyway!

Friday, July 22. Lebanon, Tn. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Deep Clean 200. Nashville Superspeedway. 7:00 p.m. (c/t). SPEED TV.

Saturday, July 23. Lebanon, Tn. NASCAR Nationwide Series Federated Auto Parts 300. Nashville Superspeedway. 6:30 p.m. (c/t). ESPN TV.
