April 2011 Platte City Cruise may have been a little down on attendance, but there is some great potential

Saturday night, we made it out to the first Platte City cruise of the season. It was a beautiful night, and this is typically a strong cruise, but it was a little down on attendance.

I guess the issue is that Righteous Rides, the car club that organized this event in the past, decided not to be involved this time. So putting this together seemed to fall on the shoulders of one guy, Larry, who enjoys this event too much to see it go.

Larry might need to work on his pre-promotion efforts, but the cruise still has some good bones to work with. There are several sponsors on board already, including All Star Towing, O'Reilly Auto Parts in Platte City, the Leavenworth Cruisers, Bash Excavating, Knighton's Body Shop, Larry's Automotive and Machine, Platte Valley Construction, and Rusty's Auto Sales.

In addition, this cruise is held in the parking lot of Pizza Shoppe and Mr. Goodcents. So unlike most of these types of events, access to decent food is readily available. We went with the pizza this time, but a sandwich would have worked too.

The new name for this event is the Outta Control Hot Rods & Cruisers Monthly Cruise Athon. And there were still a few nice cars and nice people that made it out. Several of them are familiar sights from this event last year, so it is still benefiting from the strength or past events.

I like this event, and the location isn't bad, so I really hope it succeeds this year. I think it will do fine as people catch on to when it is. And to that end, you should know it will be in the Pizza Shoppe/Mr. Goodcents parking lot at 2400 NW Prairie View Road on the third Saturday of each month throughout the summer. Specifically, plan to be out there from 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, and September 17.

In the meantime, check out the photos of the cool cars and trucks that made it out to Platte City on Saturday. In a way, the lower car count was nice, because everyone seemed more friendly and social with a little less hustle and bustle.
