Vintage Vettes in North Kansas City is the ultimate Corvette candy store

Summer vacation has begun for BHo, but when mom's not feeling well, that can be a problem. Still, that very issue gave me a chance on Wednesday to entertain the seven-year-old dynamo while mom went to the doctor took it easy. As far as I'm concerned, it beats hanging out in a cubicle any day.

One of our stops was Vintage Vettes, L.L.C. in North Kansas City. I love that place; I really do. It looks like my garage in that fantasy where I win the lottery.

But who wouldn't like it? You can go to plenty of Corvette shows that don't have anywhere near the kind of cars that are sitting in this collection. And the best part is that they're all for sale. Well, maybe that's also the worst part when you realize what nice old Corvettes are going for these days. But it's still fun to dream, no?

The dealership, for lack of a better term, is owned by well-known Corvette and Chevrolet collector Jack Wallace. The North Kansas CIty location has only been around for a couple of years, as the last location in downtown KC was hit by a pretty significant fire.

One thing's for sure--Vintage Vettes, L.L.C. knows their Corvettes. The cars that are for sale are the best of their kind. Fuel-injected straight axles. Big block Midyears. Fewer of the more common late model variety.

They also have a full-service restoration shop. While we were there, they were working on everything from a complete restoration to the detailing and refreshing of customer cars. They also have a stockroom full of precious Corvette parts to keep things running smoothly.

I asked BHo which Corvette was his favorite, and he responded with, "all of them!" I could actually see his point, but there were a few standouts. There were at least four '67 427 convertibles, which I would consider the ultimate attainable Corvettes. There was not one, not two, but three bright red '62s in inventory. There was a stellar '58 Fulie back in the mock old-time Standard Oil station. And even though I'm not usually a Nova fan, there was a Marina Blue '67 Super Sport in the back room that completely changed my mind.

Prices range from $14,750 for a blue 1979 model, to $159,999 a lovely Marlboro Maroon '67 big block. For a good buy, I was attracted to a red '65 convertible with an automatic that was far from perfect, but looked like a cool, mostly original driver. $35,995 is still a lot of scratch, but the old car really looked like something you could have fun with.
