Rapid coverage of the May 2012 Parkville Cruise

The monthly Parkville car cruise in the English Landing Park parking lot is one of the best around.  It's less than five minutes from my house.  And I try to hit as many local car shows as I can.

That being said, I missed the first one of the year because I was in California, and I almost missed the second one because my wife and I had tickets to see Jersey Boys in the Music Hall.  But don't worry, sports fans, I still managed to get some pictures of this month's cruise, and I still made it home in time to take Mrs. Hover to dinner and see the show.

Of course, I had to get to the cruise early, and I literally only had about ten minutes to snap pictures before the babysitter arrived at my house.  So the fact that I was able to eek out 140 relatively clear shots seems like some kind of accomplishment.

It's easy to hone in on the perfect hot rods or high-dollar muscle cars, but I want to take a second to talk about a pretty nice '74 Monte Carlo that was sitting there.  Ever since I got my first car, I've always been a big fan of the '70s GM intermediates.  Yeah, they're a little boaty and not as fast as their late-'60s/early-'70s counterparts, but they were a familiar part of the American landscape for a long time.  I would love to see more cars from this era at car shows.

Of course there were lots of other interesting cars there.  I like the '57 Chevy 210 two-door sedan that we've seen around many times before.  There's just something about the black tires and little hubcaps on white wheels that's really appealing.

Predictably, there were several Corvettes and really nice Mustangs.  There was a nice '55 T-Bird, a Nova gasser, and nice Dodge Chargers from 1966, 1970, and a pair from 1967.

I have no doubt that the crowd got much bigger after I left.  This is the early bird crowd.  A lot of these guys want to park under the farmer's market awning or under a tree.  Of course you can't blame them for wanting a little shade; it was as hot and humid as you'd ever want to experience.

Anyway, this might not be a complete slideshow, but I think I snapped pretty much everything that was there while I was there.  If you want to see the entire show, simply head to Parkville next month.  They'll do it all again on Saturday evening, June 2.
