As summer comes to an end, we start getting more “must attend” car events to wind up the season. One of those is the KCI Airport Cruise, which took place last Saturday night at the Ambassador Building near the airport. As usual, there were tons of cars and tons of great door prizes. Add the beautiful weather, and you’ve got the recipe for a huge event. The Hovers did their part, as my dad brought out his old Corvette and parked it right next to my truck in the crowded parking lot.

KCI Airport Cruise: nice cars, nice prizes, nice weather

Titans of design represented at the KCI Airport Cruise
One of the car cruises that everyone seems to look forward
to in Kansas City is the KCI
Airport Cruise, which is held at the old Ambassador
Building in northern Kansas
City . But if
you had been paying attention to the weather forecast for this year's
installment, you may have had your doubts that it was even going to
happen. Storm warnings were north of
town, the wind was blowing like 100-miles-per-hour, and there were some spooky
looking clouds off in the distance.

Aviation Adventure Day at Kansas City's Downtown Airport was attractive to car nuts and aviation buffs
One of the car shows that we look forward to each year is the Aviation Adventure Day at the Charles B. Wheeler Airport in Downtown Kansas City. Unlike most of the events we go to, this one has a bit of variety, because you get to look at airplanes as well as cars.
We were over there on Saturday morning, and the conditions were a little less than ideal. It was raining, or trying to rain the whole time we were there, and when it wasn't raining, it was so humid it might as well have been. As a result, the car count was a little lower than what we saw there last year, at least during the time we were there. I suspect that business picked up later in the afternoon, though.

Big car count, big prizes, big fun. The big story with a big slideshow of the big KCI Cruise Night
The KCI Cruise Night is a cruise night in name only. It isn't like the typical monthly city cruise where you see the same 50 cars that live within ten miles of the parking lot.
No, this one is different. It only happens once or twice a year, and people come from all over the Kansas City area. So when we went there on Saturday night, it was no surprise that the massive WireCo parking lot near Kansas City International Airport was packed with hot rods, customs, trucks, and muscle cars. There might not be any awards at this event, but this is an all-out car show.
