Renamed drivers and a re-bodied Cadillac in this week's Thursday Drive-By

Today’s Thursday Drive-By has some cool stuff, and a couple of self-serving links that are still cool.

We’ve got a bit of vintage racing, with a great story about undercover drivers from the Midwest Racing Archives. We’ve got a little automotive mayhem with a video compilation. There are some awesome old drag racing photos from the Jalopy Journal. And a famously hideous Cadillac returns to Le Mans.

I’m also including a couple of links from Dale Wilch’s Man Cave and Tallant’s Hot Rod Shop. These two get special treatment, because they are the first two paying sponsors ever on the Hover Motor Company blog. I am very proud that companies are starting to take notice, and very excited to have these folks on board. I’ve written stories about both of these businesses in the past, and am honored that they chose to take a chance with me here.

Past, present, and future in this week's Thursday Drive-By

A new week, a new selection of links for this week’s Thursday Drive-By. Gotta love the Internet.

Two of these are inspired by Disney, including the new Carsland at the Disney California Adventure Theme Park, and a great look at cars of the future—as told in 1958.

From the same era, we have another Hollywood-inspired link with the classic TV show Highway Patrol. Man, those old mid-‘50s Buicks really leaned over in the corners!

Check out all the fun links in this week’s Thursday Drive-By.

Rotting Corvette headlines this week's Thursday Drive-By

We’re looking at old cars and new cars, new cars built to look like old cars, restored show cars, and old cars that need to be restored in this week’s Thursday Drive-By.

Confused yet? That’s OK; I’m not doing much better. But we have links from sources like Autoweek, Hemmings, Automotive Traveler, and the Autoextremist.

So get on out there and explore the World Wide Web. Just try not to get so excited that you forget to come back here sometimes. Check out the links below.

A little nostalgia in this week's Thursday Drive-By

We’re taking a look back in time for this week’s Thursday Drive-By. We’re looking at automotive styling from the past. We’re looking at shopping malls of the past. We’re looking at magazines from the past. We’re looking at Ferraris of the past. And we’re looking at roadside signage from the past.

One thing you’ve got to love about the Internet is that no matter how old or obscure the subject matter is; no matter how much you thought certain things only existed in your memories; somewhere, someone has pictures and information that they are willing to share. You wouldn’t think something like the Web would be the quintessential source for all things nostalgic, but in some ways, it really is.

Take a look at all the cool car-related stuff in the links below.

We're going on some road trips in this week's Thursday Drive-By

What the heck, let’s look at five more automotive-related links in this week’s Thursday Drive-By. We’ve got a taste of Hollywood, a dash of nostalgia, and much more in the latest installment.

There’s a fantastic story about a great American road trip in the 1940s and ‘50s, a current road trip that passed through Kansas City last weekend, and a car museum that hasn’t been part of anyone’s road trip for quite some time. Plus, there’s a little feature on the greatest road trip movie ever made.

Check out the links below, and broaden your online automotive education.

Cars lead the way, crash, and sell in this week's Thursday Drive-By

Here’s our weekly look at the interesting car-related links from around the Web.

This is Indy 500 weekend, so two of these posts feature aspects of the big race. One of them gives us a little vintage pace car history, and the other gives us an inside look at where the current open wheel cars are built.

We also look at some cars in less-than-ideal situations. The ghost of Christmas past shows us some vintage car crash pictures, and the ghost of Christmas present brings us some abandoned Packards that are set to be auctioned off. The ghost of Christmas future features a Crosley Hot Shot, which may be our mode of transportation someday as the government demands higher fuel regulations. Check everything out below.

A little fly-by in the Thursday Drive-By

There’s a whole world of cool stuff out there on the Internet, but sometimes you just don’t have time to go search for it. Well, I’m here to help. Here are five links to things that I think you might find interesting out there on the old web.

As usual, they are mostly car-related. I am adding a link about an airplane, but I think you’ll like it anyway. There are also old racing photos, old racing cars in new photos, movie cars, and a dream car restoration.

See all of this and more by checking out the links below in this week’s Thursday Drive-By.

Your 3-in-1 Thursday Drive-By

We’ve got an Oldsmobile, a Ford, Cadillacs, race cars, and a little folksy truck prose for this week’s Thursday Drive-By. Sometimes I see this stuff, and I’m jealous because I didn’t get to write about it!

The selection is kind of like an old 3-in-1 model car kit. The stories include Stock, Custom, and Competition. There are some sources that may be familiar to folks here, and some that may not be. But as a whole, I think you’ll be pleased with this week’s collection of links.

Check ‘em all out below.

Old trucks, Cuban cars, and Lego-mobiles in this week's Thursday Drive-By

Once again, I have scanned the Internet in search of some fun stories and unusual links for your automotive viewing pleasure. This week we look back at the truck races at I-70 Speedway, the car culture in Cuba, and the creative world of Lego cars.

Some of these are more current stories, and some of them are older collections. I’m just trying to find things that I personally think are interesting, which I hope, in turn, will be interesting to you too. Check out the links below and see what you think. And as usual, if you like this blog, feel free to share it with your friends too!

One-owner Cobra and vintage car crashes in this week's Thursday Drive-By

Week after week, there's just more neat stuff to see out on the Internet for the Thursday Drive-By.

This time, we've got an original, one-owner Shelby Cobra, vintage car crashes, and an amazing car-themed orthodontists office. What's the greatest V8 engine of all time? And what happens to an Enzo Ferrari when you abandon it in Dubai?

The answers to all of these questions can be found in these links below.

Vintage Corvette footage, Motorama concept cars, and local racing in this week's Thursday Drive-By

When I was a kid, there were things that my dad taught me about cars that I figured no one else knew about. I just never ran across anyone in my social sphere that had much knowledge or interest. But the Internet changes everything. Clearly there are thousands of people that are interested in the same things I am, and most of them know more than I could ever hope to.

We look at some more of those people in this week’s Thursday Drive-By. Do you like car jumps? Watch the General Lee take to the skies courtesy of the Hemmings Blog. Concept cars your thing? The Palm Springs Automobilist has you covered. You’ll even find a little local car racing mixed in with a vintage California Corvette club. See all the good stuff below.

I guess I should apologize right off the bat. If you click the links in this week’s Thursday Drive-By, you are going to eat up most of your day. There are so many great stories and vintage photos in these five links that you aren’t going to have time to get anything else done.

We’re looking at an infamous lead-sled, a compelling first car, old school auto shows, and about a jillion old car brochures. I think this is a really good installment of the Thursday Drive-By. Check it out and see what you think.

Introducing the Thursday Drive-By

I am not even close to being a technophile, but I run into great car stories and pictures on the Internet all the time. Between the various blogs I follow, to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, there is enough material out there to waste hours that I should be doing something else.

I thought it might be fun to do a weekly column called the “Thursday Drive-By” where I pick maybe five stories that I hope you’ll like from various online sources, then providing the link for you to check them out yourselves. Of course, then I discovered that it takes longer to put all of this together than I was expecting. There’s just so much good stuff out there to choose from! Anyway, I’ll give it a try this week, and if you guys like the idea, maybe we’ll make it a regular, or at least semi-regular feature in the future. Check these out and see what you think!
