Looks like another great weekend for car events around Kansas City.

For example, the granddaddy of all Corvette shows is in Independence this weekend, when the Kansas City Corvette Association presents Vettes on the Square. The Leavenworth Cruisers Annual Car Show hits the quarter-century mark this year. The National History Museum at the Downtown Airport is having a car show—slash—airplane show—slash—dance. And there are car cruises in North Kansas City, Overland Park, Riverside, and Merriam.

Enjoy racing? Look for the USAC Sprint Cars at Valley Speedway, weekly dirt trackin’ at Winston, Heartland Park, and Lebanon. And straight-line action is in season at KCIR. Or watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from the comfort of your own living room as they take on the road course at Watkins Glen.

NASCAR on Television

Last week’s Cup race in Pocono ended up with Brad Keselowski in victory lane in spite of a nasty-looking broken foot. And as an added bonus, defending and five-time consecutive champ Jimmie Johnson got in a shouting match with Kurt Busch. Even the Nationwide race in Iowa was exciting last week, with teammates crashing across the finish line.

This week, Sprint Cup and Nationwide head to the road course in Watkins Glen, while the trucks take the week off. Fresh off his victory, will Keselowski’s ankle be able to handle the demands of shifting gears through a road course? Will Johnson and Busch plant each other into the tire barrier?
