You know I love Corvettes. And this weekend the Corvette Club of Kansas City hosted the Mid-Summer Corvette Show near my house at the Zona Rosa shopping center. Any other weekend, I’d be there in a heartbeat. But I went to the Leadsled Spectacular in Salina this weekend, so I missed the Corvette show. Still, this story has a happy ending after all. To my complete surprise, my wife and son went to this great event without me. And as a bonus, my nine-year-old son BHo took more than 170 pictures of all the cars there. He was excited to share them with me when I got home, and I am equally as excited to share them with you. The kid did a great job!

Exotic cars and chicken spiedini at the Fiesta Italiano Car Show in Zona Rosa
It’s not too often that I go to a car show and know virtually nothing about any of the cars that are on display there, but I stepped outside my wheelhouse a bit for the Fiesta Italiana Car Show at the Zona Rosa shopping center over the weekend. The car show was part of Fiesta Italiana, which was a celebration of all things Italian. They had everything from wine experts to spaghetti eating contests. Oh, and the food—lots and lots of food. I know the Hovers all left the event pretty stuffed after sampling several of the vendors’ offerings.

Fiesta Italiana Car Show. That's amore!
The smell of fried ravioli was in the air during the Fiesta Italiana at the Zona Rosa shopping area. And although most people were there for the live music, the street vendors, and the cannoli eating contest, there was, in fact, an Italian car show tucked quietly in one of the side streets.
I actually didn’t even know about this one until I saw a poster hanging in an Italian restaurant the night before. That’s why it wasn’t in my weekly calendar. And I didn’t really know what to expect.

Rock 'Em Out Car Show and Rockabilly Day brought cool cars and crazy characters to Zona Rosa
You have to admit, the weather is pretty darned stellar in Kansas City for mid-October. Normally a car show would be a miserable, cold affair right about now, but that was no such problem for the Rev 'Em Up and Rock 'Em Out Car Show and Rockabilly Day presented by Fat Fish Blue and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City in the Zona Rosa shopping area.
I think this was envisioned as sort of a upscale shopping version of the Greaserama show, and there were a few gritty hot rods, girls with bright red lipstick, and guys with their jeans rolled up. There were a couple of newer cars slipped in there, like a Chevy SSR and a Plymouth Prowler. But really, what do you expect when you're a block away from an Old Navy store? I kind of like those SSRs anyway.
