Studebaker Driver's Club holds national meet in Colorado Springs

Each year, the Studebaker Driver’s Club holds a national meet at which Studebakers and Avantis from all over the world gather for a car show, driving tours, and camaraderie.  Often, this takes place in South Bend, Ind., home of the Studebaker.  But this year, the gathering was at the Hotel Elegante in Colorado Springs, Colo.  I wasn’t able to attend this one, but luckily our good friend Pat Casey was nice enough to send a disc full of pictures to share.

Dad nails the Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac Car Show in Colorado

I have made fun of my dad’s photography skills for most of my life.  He hardly ever took a car picture that didn’t have half the car cut off.  I just never thought he was any good at it.  But last weekend, dad went to the Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac Car Show in Colorado.  He was willing to take a camera along, but honestly, I didn’t expect much.  I was dead wrong, though.  I have to give him credit; he took some great pictures.  Turns out the ‘ol man can find his way around a camera after all!

Highland Ranch Car Show described as "the most eclectic bunch of cars I've ever seen"

While it is true that we are a Kansas City-based blog, I am not above posting about something interesting that happens in another city. And the annual Highlands Ranch Car Show near Denver, Colo., certainly qualifies as interesting.

One of our good family friends, Patrick Casey, was there to check out the unique and unusual cars and trucks on display in the huge Cherry Hills Community Church parking lot. Pat called it, “the most eclectic bunch of cars I’ve ever seen,” and the pictures tend to support that claim.

HMC goes bigtime with national coverage of the BPOC car show in Colorado

While I was out at the Nebraska Furniture Mart car show this weekend, I had a couple of people ask me why my dad didn't bring his old Corvette out. Well, he probably would have, but he was on special assignment as HMC's national correspondent, bringing up-to-the-minute coverage of the annual Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac (BPOC) show in Greenwood Village, Colo., near Denver.

Truth be told, the car show was just an excuse. He was really there to visit his old high school friend Pat Casey, who invited him to ride out in his very nice '61 Pontiac Catalina four-door hardtop.

Big ol' car wreck on an icy road in Colorado Springs. It may be bad, but impossible not to watch

File photo of other cars on a slick road
OK, I usually don't post the video of the day, and I know it's wrong to be entertained by other peoples' problems, but there's something about this video that I find entertaining--in a twisted sort of way.

It's just a slick hill on South Carefree and Powers in Colorado Springs.  And you'll notice that in spite of the mangled, abandoned cars that already litter the street, more attempt to make it up the hill.

Anyway, if you've ever been a little out of control on an icy road, you'll probably experience a little of the pucker factor when you watch this.  But be warned: the guy taking the video says some bad words.  So if you're offended by bad words, or you have kids in the room, you know the risk before you click.
